10 Ceilings We’re Swooning Over

June 19, 2017

By: The Finished Space

As you may have guessed by our recent moodboard, we’ve got one thing on our mind: gorgeous ceilings. And no wonder, we’ve been spending months flipping through photos of one beautiful home after another. It’s clear, some of our favorite designers understand that ceilings deserve more than a basic flat white paint.

For Blog Only - Coffered Ceiling Closeup

coffered ceiling (from the Old French word for box, coffre) resembles a grid, with beams attached to flat panels that criss-cross the ceiling in straight lines. Once the grid pattern is built, it’s finished with beams, moulding and other decorative elements based on preference and taste.

Maybe it seems daunting, deciding what to do with your ceiling. We understand, it can be overwhelming to think about, or maybe you just think a finished ceiling won’t work with your style. But don’t worry, you just need some inspiration. We’ve gathered our favorite ceilings from the 2016 Builder & Designer Challenge in one place just for you.

1. G. A. White Homes

G.A. White Homes - Office - Fashion Forward

This beyond elegant home office by G. A. White Homes wouldn’t be complete without the clean lines from the intricate ceiling. The designer showcased our Fashion Forward Collection in their dual-toned detailed tray ceiling. We’re in beyond love with the bold design in this space! We’ve mentioned a couple times that this is one of our favorite home office makeovers, and we’re sticking to it!

2. Maison Design and Build

This glam living room by Maison Design and Build is to die for. The navy and white palette with pops of pink is classic yet fun, and the simple tray ceiling with panel mould is the pièce de résistance. We’re getting major bachelorette pad vibes from this one.

3. House of Bohn

For Blog Only - Karin Bohn, House of Bohn - Honeycomb Coffered Ceiling Kitchen

Karin Bohn, of House of Bohn, knows that architecturally interesting ceilings aren’t just for traditional tastes. This beautiful, contemporary #AllWhiteEverything kitchen boasts an extravagant coffered ceiling. Matching the color of the wall makes the impact a little more subtle, but there’s no hiding how bold this Fashion Forward kitchen is. Check out our House of Bohn moodboard for a closer look.

4. Ivory Homes

For Blog Only - Ivory Homes - Foyer with Ceiling Panel

Up next is another modern pick from Ivory Homes. If you’ve been keeping up with our moodboards, you know how in love we are with this foyer. But ignore everything else, let’s draw your attention to the exquisitely simple ceiling. The clean lines of this coffered ceiling extend throughout the entire living area and tie the open concept space together. This look is great if you’re a little nervous about adding moulding to your fifth wall.

5. Valentino Homes and Developments

For Blog Only - Valentino Homes - Living Room

We just love relaxing living rooms—and this impressive space definitely checks that box. Built and designed by Valentino Homes and Developments with celebrity designers Curtis Elmy and Trevor Ciona of Atmosphere Interior Design, the room features crisp white walls and blue accents. The deep coffered ceiling, created with trim elements from our Fashion Forward Collection, makes a statement throughout the entire space. The architectural interest gives it all a polished look. Side note, we love the recessed lighting in the living room—and check out the beautiful chandelier hanging from the coffered ceiling!

6. The Haebler Group

We rounded up another #AllWhiteEverything kitchen for you, designed by the Haebler Group. But instead of being modern and eclectic, this room is definitely taking cues from traditional design for a stunning transitional look. The island, framed by the very detailed ceiling, offers an anchoring point for the eye along with function. Also, can we talk about those beautiful sliding glass doors?! If you can’t tell from this picture, those doors lead into a separate room with more storage, the range and other appliances. How unique is that?

7. Wastell Homes

Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got this gorgeous home office. Designed by Wastell Homes, this rustic office is absolutely cozy. The wood furniture, warm and natural wall color, and natural light make it a unique productive space. But really, it’s all about that ceiling. It is beautiful, switching colors twice, but also functional to provide a logical spot for recessed lighting. Can we move in? We’re dying to have a few work sessions here.

Designing beautifully finished ceilings doesn’t have to be overwhelming, and the payoff is absolutely worth the extra work. Feeling inspired yet?
