While staying at home last year had its challenges, homebasing also inspired homeowners and designers worldwide to make the most of their interior design. After all, it makes sense that you’d want to beautify the space where you spend all of your time.

One of the best ways to amp up style in your design is with color. So let’s take a look at the paint palettes that the most popular brands have named for 2022 so that you can style your space with success and inspiring color.

Colors That Bring Balance: Yellow and Gray

PANTONE’s Color of the Year for 2022 is two very different hues: a cheery and optimistic yellow, Illuminating, and the balanced neutral, Ultimate Gray.

When this combination is applied strategically in your design, the result is a “marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting,” according to designers at The Nordroom. “Practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, the union of PANTONE Ultimate Gray and PANTONE Illuminating is one of strength and positivity.”

Both of these colors can bring personality to your design, whether you use them in tandem or separately. Using Ultimate Gray as a backdrop in your space gives designers the freedom to add contrast and design details that stand out. While black moulding and white doors and trim add a dynamic look to any room, they especially work to add sophistication and personality against the gray walls in the living space pictured below.

Fresh Appeal With Aegean Teal

Benjamin Moore promoted Aegean Teal as their color of choice for 2022. “These are colors that make your home feel even more like home,” according to Benjamin Moore.

The cool tone of Aegean Teal brings life and a fresh pop of color to any space, and it works exceptionally well with a neutral palette. Teal stands out nicely on statement walls — most notably when paired with white moulding and trim and carefully selected furniture pieces — for a finished, energized design.

If you don’t want to cover an entire room in teal, try integrating it in small details or in furniture to bring the color to life in your space.

Earthy, Organic Urbane Bronze

Since everyone is spending more time indoors, it’s important to pull natural elements into interior design. “The trend for biophilia continues to shape our spaces, proving that nature is never far away. Urbane Bronze might be a color rooted in nature, but it also has a unique ability to ground a room through organic appeal,” says Sherwin-Williams, who named Urbane Bronze their 2022 Color of the Year.

This rich shade of brown lends a subtle, but bold backdrop for any interior space that needs a touch of sophistication. Fresh white contrasting trim or moulding pairs well with the darker color for a sleek, modern space.

Royal Orchard: Greens That Go Deep

Behr also unveiled a palette of 2022 colors and recommends going with darker tones to bring a sense of stability to your space. According to experts at Behr, “deep hues have a reassuringly sublime and dependable nature, delivering the effect of a peaceful oasis in your home.”

Royal Orchard is a natural, earthy green that offers plenty of possibilities. To ensure your space doesn’t feel too heavy with these darker shades, bring in design details in lighter colors and add ample lighting to balance the room’s overall feel.

Shades of Stone

Stay inspired in your space by using colors that evoke a sense of calm. Valspar’s Gray-Green Linen mimics “the protective qualities of natural stone” for a space that feels grounded and balanced.

The neutral shade delivers a solid foundation for any design style. We particularly love how it works with the wooden countertops in this family kitchen for a fantastically finished space.
